A performance by The Rhythmosaic Sengupta Dance Company & HKAPA. The Rhythmosaic Sengupta Dance Company is on a constant tryst of pushing boundaries in the field of classical & contemporary movement art; their experimental movements retain traditional nuances while exploring contemporary possibilities. 

Rhythmosaic presents a dance piece in collaboration with the students of the School of Dance, Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.


Elephant in the Room – India by the Bay 2018 Theatre

Lord Ganapati Revisited with the play Elephant in The Room

Inspired by mythology, Elephant in the Room plays homage to Lord Ganapati in this quirky and poignant reinterpretation of his story. The protagonist is a young boy named Master Tusk, who has been given a new head –of an elephant’s! Tusk gets lost in a forest and encounters dangers, both literal and metaphorical – this is a coming-of-age story where Tusk emerges with his head firmly on his shoulders.

Acclaimed screenwriter, photographer and film-maker Sooni Taraporevala, best known for her screenplays of Mississippi Masala, followed by The Namesake and the Academy Award-nominated Salaam Bombay, will be in conversation with international news correspondent Mallika Kapur who has spent most her career with CNN.

Sooni’s films Salaam Bombay & Little Zizou will be screened on 23rd and 30th January 2018


Music with Grammy Award winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt – India by the Bay 2018

Mesmeric Music with the Mohan Veena

Grammy winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar and creator of the “Mohan Veena” (a hybrid slide guitar), will perform at an exclusive concert at India by the Bay.

The Mohan Veena, which Vishwa Mohan Bhatt plays lap-style, is a modified acoustic guitar with 19 strings, divided among melody, drone and sympathetic in the manner of the sitar. The added strings allow Bhatt to produce a range of timbres and effects.

A Slice of History Served Up Fresh – a conversation with author Shrabani Basu

Author Shrabani Basu, whose book Victoria and Abdul has recently been adapted to film with Judi Dench in the role of Victoria, will share her story behind the book with Festival producer Sanjoy K Roy. Research on a project on ‘curry’ led her to the Isle of White where she was intrigued by a portrait of ‘Abdul’. Her curiosity took her on a journey at the end of which she published Victoria and Abdul.
