Mandarin:
Mandarin is the language that represents China internationally and is the language used to communicate among various dialects and ethnic groups in China. As an international city, Hong Kong needs to train students to make good use of "biliteracy and trilingualism" to communicate in order to improve Hong Kong's international competitiveness. The undergraduate program mainly focuses on cultivating students' ability to listen and speak Mandarin, supplemented by cultivating students' reading ability, translation and writing skills and improving undergraduate-related language and cultural knowledge.

Target

(1) Listening category: Cultivate listening skills to understand the content of the discourse. (2) Speaking category: Cultivate speaking skills to express one's thoughts and feelings and communicate well with others. (3) Spelling category: Cultivate the ability to use Chinese pinyin or phonetic symbols to improve self-learning ability. (4) Reading scope: Cultivate reading aloud and self-study abilities; enhance language knowledge related to Mandarin Chinese and understanding of Chinese culture. (5) Improve undergraduate-related language knowledge, improve students’ interest in undergraduate studies and their understanding of Chinese culture.
The undergraduate teaching content and classroom format are diversified, allowing students to learn and use Mandarin in class activities. Combined with the text content, it incorporates interactive games such as children's songs, role-playing, recitation, Cantonese-Pullery translation, flipped classroom, classroom practice system, etc., aiming to increase students' interest in learning Mandarin and consolidate students' Mandarin foundation.
Students can conduct self-study through the publisher's diversified self-study website. The undergraduate program also customizes the "initial consonants, finals and syllables" learning progress for each grade, and makes flexible use of the final consonant and syllable demonstration videos in electronic textbooks to allow students to learn independently and master Mandarin spelling skills. Our school actively encourages students to participate in different types of Mandarin recitation competitions and exchange activities, including: inter-school Mandarin solo recitals, classic story speeches, ancient poetry recitations, etc., to increase students' opportunities to be exposed to and practice Mandarin.
